Summer Car Care Checklist: How to Beat the Heat
Summer heat doesn't just make your commute uncomfortable — it puts real stress on your vehicle's systems. Battery failures, tire blowouts, and A/C breakdowns spike every summer. Here's how to get ahead of it.
Test Your Battery
Heat accelerates battery fluid evaporation and internal corrosion, which can shorten a battery's lifespan significantly. If your battery is more than 3 years old, have it load-tested before the temperatures climb.
Check Coolant and Hoses
Your cooling system works overtime in extreme heat. Make sure coolant is at the proper level and mixture, and inspect hoses and the radiator cap for cracks, leaks, or soft spots that could fail under pressure.
Inspect Tires Closely
Hot pavement increases tire pressure and heat buildup, raising the risk of a blowout — especially on older or underinflated tires. Check tread depth and look for sidewall cracking or bulges.
Service Your A/C Early
Don't wait for the first 100-degree day to discover your A/C isn't working. A quick performance check can catch a slow refrigerant leak before it leaves you sweating in traffic.
Summer Readiness Checklist
- Battery load test
- Coolant level and condition check
- A/C performance test
- Tire pressure and tread inspection
- Wiper blade replacement (for sudden summer storms)
- Top off washer fluid
